Sunday morning. Ride time. I had time and could go anywhere. All I wanted was something new, somewhere different. And so, I aimed west.
This is part one of what became a fantastic day on the bike.
There’s plenty of talk about cycling and a few extras – including quite a long fish / bird scene that took place to my surprise while I was already enjoying arriving at a pretty location.
It is a bike ride. It gives you exercise, scenery, satisfaction, relaxation, contemplation, destinations… and this one had all that and more.
It was a bike ride in my town, and I had a fantastic time going west.
This episode covers the opening sequences to what became a particularly memorable day on the bike for all the right reasons.

Hey Rob
Great video 👍
Looks like Kingfish busting up for an early morning feed. More common during sunrise and sunsets. And you guessed correctly – seasons just starting to pick up for Kingies as summer approaches.
Cheers
Keep up the great vids. 😊
Great video Rob. Living near Parramatta I split my rides between the Parramatta/Rhodes/Homebush one you did in this video and M7 cycleway. Fantastic rides and super safe. Yes Parramatta Park is 3.1 or 3.2km. M7 ride is reachable from PP Park largely by cycleway so guess you do that in part 2. Rhodes to Prestons nearly 70km traffic free one way. Also have a look at the new light rail cycleway that runs off the river ride from UWS and goes to Carlingford. 4km steady climb then beautiful back down the hill. Keep the videos up!
So good to see your footage, Rob. Was really great chatting with you at the end of the M7, and looking forward to part 2.
You should venture out further west and see the cycling infrastructure that is being built into Penrith / Nepean region. It's not quite up to Parramatta's level yet, but it's coming up. I am seeing lots of kids riding to and from school and for fun. I am seeing people starting to commute for work (I was one of them before I needed to move from the area a few weeks ago). It's not there yet, but it's growing. I've moved into the mountains now and while the area is absolutely STUNNING, the infrastructure is nowhere near as safe to ride on (for a less-confident-middle-aged-recent-convert-rider). Penrith City Council have big plans to increase micro-mobility into their city planning and it's starting to have an effect, slowly, but starting.
Kingfish, maybe chasing prawns on the surface.
You’ve got a great eye for the natural beauty along your rides Rob. So nice to watch. I’ve ventured out along that path myself in the last 12 months and it was such a lovely approach to parramatta compared to driving. With the right mindset it’s even enjoyable when full of people: families and the melting pot of multicultural Sydney walking around enjoying the weather and river. Looking forward to seeing the next segment!
Yellow tail kingfish (Seriola lalandi). An awesome sight to see them working bait schools like that, not something you see everyday. I always tend to find that i see the best bustups when i'm riding the bike around the river in Perth. The second I get out there with rod in hand the bastards disappear.
Did you cop any magpies out west? I seem to be maggie magnet this time of year!
School of Rat Kingies – great sight.
Love seeing you out my neck of the woods. Where are you at the 9min part of the video? I ride out that way lots of times but I can’t place where those sandstone blocks and the jumping fish are
Thank you for that nice video Rob. It's 5 Celsius outside here in the northern hemisphere, but joining you on that warm Sunday morning ride felt like a little spring vacation!
I'm looking forward to part 2.
I'm so sick of riding on northern beaches. wind and roads are the worst.
Thanks for doing this lovely Video. I Get to send your video to my Friends in America. I Live In Parramatta.
Awesome video mate. I just had a ride from seven hills to the city for the first time. I made a video of it on my channel. So many nice spots to ride
