I was caught red handed by the French police.

On my final day in France I inadvertently find myself on the wrong end of the law.

    1. That was priceless! “Don’t tell the gendarmes “ and there he was. We’re finally getting to some more seasonal weather here in the states so seeing beautiful places while we are in the cold and wet ( which the folks fighting a large brush fire next county over are thankful for) was a pleasant change.

    2. You mentioned the nice weather and it really did look lovely. Your 23°C would be what?….about low 70sF? Great riding temps.

      BTW Benji looks adorable. 😊

    3. The police and everybody else in France or Italy are pretty relaxed with cyclists acting not exactly according to the rules. As long as you are careful and don't do crazy things you are fine. I had cases where I was thinking about how to get around a blocked road or stopped at a temporary red light at road works when police or the workers told me to go. I also have used a lot of one way streets in the wrong direction and cycled into the pedestrian areas of towns to get to the hotel.
In Germany and Austria this can get you into trouble. Not just because of the police but also because of other people yelling at you.

    4. I asked a policeman once how to get 50 meters into a one way street.. he just said .. just go against traffic, it;'s just a short stretch and it's quiet.. (and that was when I was in a CAR!!) Ah, Dutch police :-).. Usually when I am on a bike I assume that all traffic signs are mandatory for cars and optional for cyclists (unless there are specifically directed at cyclists (or would be dangerous to assume otherwise)

    5. So funny! In 34 years I only stopped 2 cyclists. Both red light violations. Well, 2 others also. But one was armed and had been shooting at rival gang members and the other was for possession with intent. But funny anyway! Take care.

    6. I just cannot see relying on some gadget like this to think for you about place, direction, route, etc. Don't you suppose other English visiting France up to when most people became obsessed with cell phones, computers, bike gadgets, etc, got along well enough thinking for themselves, having a general sense of direction, using landmarks, maps, memorization, asking a local, and all of that? But it does in any case look like a pretty area to be riding and staying in. I'd be drinking plenty of French wine every day. That's for sure. Nice sweet dog at the end. Looks like a Labrador.

    7. There is a good clay pigeon shooting club at Arnac La Poste, The Club President is an expat, Tony is a Top bloke and very welcoming to Frenchmen and Englishmen alike !

    8. I've only been stopped by the police once when my rear light (a bloody expensive at the time Exposure Tracer) fell off and I hadn't noticed. Lucky for me the broken mount was still attached to the seat post which I pointed out, and I keep a cheap backup in my saddle bag so they let me off.

    9. like others I love your weather before you wet weather comes along. Tip for the dog, bring a treat or two and the dog would really like a belly rub, it is very trendy for dogs anywhere and it makes them very happy, unless they are aggressive then its not such a good idea.

    10. YOU SCOFFLAW!! Going the wrong way down a one-way street! You could have created an international incident!
Which made me wonder: When riding outside the UK, do you carry your passport with you? One would assume you do, but you law-breakers like to live life on the edge.
      You have great comic timing!

    11. As always beautiful country side as is to be expected in France. After cycling through my local surroundings for nearly a year, I've become familiar with every corner and crevice. While I have my preferred routes, the limitations of my current location occasionally make me crave more variety. Living in Europe, where numerous countries offer a diverse range of landscapes, must add an extra layer of enjoyment to each ride for you. Could you share some suggestions on how to inject more challenge and interest into cycling adventures for people without this variety. I always enjoy your videos and look forward to them.
