Our last stop in Normandy is the spectacular Mont-Saint-Michel. A magical island topped by a gravity-defying abbey, the Mont-Saint-Michel and its Bay count among France’s most stunning sights. For centuries one of Europe’s major pilgrimage destinations, this holy island is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as is its breathtaking bay. In this video we show you where we parked our motorhome to spend the night near the island and explore the vicinity by bicycle.

    ABOUT US:
Welcome! We’re Andre and Lisa. A married South African couple who has been travelling together for almost 20 years, to more than 50 countries. In 2017 we took stock of our life and made the decision to ‘retire early’. We gave up our professional careers and all our personal possessions in order to explore the world as full-time nomads. Over the past two years, we have been travelling through Europe with our 21-year-old Motorhome. Please subscribe to follow along and join us on our adventure!

We make vlogs, not travel guides. We don’t film everything we see or do. Our videos cannot tell every story or show every place we visit. Our videos are merely a short snippet of sometimes a week’s worth of life on the road and it’s intended to show our experience as full-time travelers. As we’re constantly on the move it’s also not always possible to take the time to research every single location. We really appreciate when people offer us advice or make suggestions for our next visit. Please don’t make assumptions or be rude. To us or to each other.

    1. Visited many many years ago, and at the last minute decided to stay for the night. Wasn't that expensive that time (we were backpacking…)
Enjoying it without people has been one of the highlights of our travels… Watching the tide come in from way up in the abbey was amazing!

    2. Enjoyed the video, agree the place is beautiful, we were dissapointed with the commercial aspect to the place. However it runs a distant second to Saint Michaels Mount in Cornwall England for us, Hope you enjoy Dinan a real gem of Brittany

    3. You make wonderful movies and I'm happy to follow you! We visit France yearly since 10 years ago. We might move there when we retire… Don't know yet. (We are Swedish and live in the southern part). I'm curious about your bike – it look's perfect for us instead of bringing two bikes. What is it and where to buy it? Br, Johnny & Ewa from Sweden

    4. I must be weird. Because, I was so under-whelmed by Mont Saint Michel. Maybe it was because I had seen so many photos of it before we visited. And then when we visited it was so touristy, the few hotels on the mainland were charging crazy prices. You had to avoid Japanese tourists with camera's on most of the road leading up to the island itself. I really didn't like it. I believe there is a sister Mont Michel in Wales which I suspect is much more authentic and less of a tourist rip-off than this one. I love the architecture and the setting but in my opinion, its not worth the effort and cost of visiting. We headed down south very quickly to the lovely town of La Rochelle which has amazing history and is just wow.
Greetings to you both from Kigali in Rwanda.

    5. That's an incredible find, I will put it on the list of places to visit on my way down to the south. A fab vid anyway 😀😀😀👍👍👍👍

    6. AH thank you, as ever, Andre and Lisa – a cracking film again, Mount Saint Michelle looks absolutely incredible – the drone footage, particularly the cycling bit was amazing. You set a high bar! We really hope your channel keeps on growing. As ever, our YouTube friends – keep on with the happy travels and lovely films. We're sailing straight past France in December, so it will be a while before we get there but it looks brilliant in a motorhome. From a wet and blustery Ireland (but another incredible park up!) Kevin & Nicky x

    7. We visited Normandy in 2008 by car from Denmark, and also went to the WWII beaches, Omaha beach, Pegasus bridge, WWII cemeteries, museums and Mont-Saint-Michel. Looks like a new road now. It was fantastic.

    8. Beautifully shot Andre. Love the drone shots on this one. Curious what drone you use? I'm still running the original Mavic 2 Pro with ND Polarising filters. Love all your drone shots to set the scene. Great work!
