What do you think about cycling prescriptions? 🚲
Cycling is literally a life saver for me, it has improved my mental health massively and given something positive to focus on.
All well and good you are preaching to the converted judging by some of the comments.
You suggested parks for riding but don't a lot of pedestrians use them with prams and dogs on leads?
And are new converts who maybe want to loose weight immediately find Strava useful when they are breathless after half a mile?
You suggested a mountain bike with knobbly tyres which are never suitable for tarmac.
We need people to get back to using straightforward simple bikes without all the modern trappings as a starter.
Unfortunately the bike industry has geared itself towards high end carbon racing bikes with never ending frame shape changes, disc brakes, hidden cabling, electric shifting and nauseam….Just to follow fashion.
It's also low impact on joints when compared to jogging and running.
I SMELL A HUUUGE RAT…..
drink beer
I regularly prescribe exercise to my patients.
Excellent evidence for aerobic exercise not just for your heart, but for chronic pain and mental well being.
However, not everyone is happy with this prescription!!
But studies have shown that most people that got into cycling were afflicted by another kind of disease called upgraditis.
How much money would we save in the healthcare system if everyone could get a bicycle (not an e-bike) on prescription?
👍
What can be done about it? Well not everyone can afford the Pinarello bike shown, although there are cheaper options such as the Specialized Allez. Fitness centres are there to make money and so free stationary bikes must be available for the least able to afford a bike. Where will the money come from? Good video.
Being flattened under a truck is terminal, most other conditions have some form of treatment. Rather than rick using children's toys on the road take them to a playground where they belong. You can also play on the swings if you get bored.
Do you really believe the Medical community would prescribe cycling for Hemorrhoids ??
Lots of young people around where I live riding eBike. They zip by me fast without pedaling, often on sidewalks. At least they are not in cars.
Here I was getting excited to be on a winner with my current job, and ready to share this video with those that I know – then you went and mentioned 'research' by two of the world's most EVIL organisations – the WHO and the WEF. I know I'm on a winner with my current mode of self employment anyway, but do we really need these evil organisations to get in on it?…..Next they'll want to register our bikes!
Unless of course you hit a pothole or get hit by a loony driver! Down here in Devon the roads are absolutely appalling! I’ve virtually given cycling now. Just not prepared to take the risk anymore! Too dangerous! Been cycling since the age of 9-now 70. Too risky, different world. The roads are too busy, too dangerous, unsafe surfaces so I’m into walking now. Central and local government have let us all down!
Gotta say that cycling has its risks, a fall can have lasting consequences, that maybe is something not suitable for people of older age.
PERFECT VID. AWESOME CONTENT!
This is perfect, thanks for the awareness.
Note though that using a competition orientated sportsbike to promote cycling is not too ideal.
Not only the price, but the ergonomics of a road bike are not really promoting health as such.
With an upright city bike you can integrate movement into your daily commute and can exercise with speed just the same 🙂
But doctor's promoted something that has killed millions of people.
I prefer to combine fitness with practically. Like cycling to the supermarket 2 times a day to buy chocolate 😂
I have ridden 1,727.1 miles so far this year out my front door Solo 😐 I don’t ride during rush hour and I don’t ride when the schools are letting out 😅
Quoting WEF does nothing for the cause.
Using rim brakes will also make your cycling better 🤫
Cycling improves lives; it can be a life saver in some situations. Doctors prescribing cycling is a very positive move forward, after all cycling in some cases is better than prescribing medication. Thanks for this video.
20 mins a day of cycling slowly in the rain before eating pizza and cake in front of the TV… guaranteed to work…
Walking is probably more practical and much safer.
Getting many people to actually do the prescribed cycling or walking… good luck with that.
but for people who want to get fitter/healthier this might be the push they need to get started…
Or Zwift!
Recipe to inflate the problem of bike robbery in uk.
Mountain bikes are good for mountains, road bikes are for the rest/real world. Can't understand GCN' recommendation here.
The biggest question is why why they are prescribing kool-aid still 🤔 😮
What about cycling and testicular cancer? Is that a myth?
Bravo. This is the best video I have viewed on physical fitness.
More psychological attempts to manipulate the public mind against using cars.
Few years ago, in 2018, I found out that the path from my house to my job was nearly entirely connected by bike lanes, roughly 10km.
That was the reason I decided to start biking to work. Best decision I made. I absolutely loved it, and ever since cycling has been an integral part of my life, I absolutely love it.
To this day, the best part of my days is the bike ride to work and the ride back. I wholeheartedly believe anyone who is able to make that jump will not regret it.
I'm 72 years old. My doctor told me to lose weight. Cycling took me from 205 lbs to 145 lbs (in 12 months). I cycle 10 to 20 miles per day. (nice days outside, cold/rainy days on an indoor trainer). It's fun, it keeps my weight down and energy up. I also ride to the grocery store, mall, library, gym, etc. About the only time I use my car is to get gas.
I used to do a lot of cycling both on and off road and enjoyed every mile ridden. Particularly when riding through traffic that was going absolutely nowhere. In 96 I built a custom mountain bike at a cost of £3 grand. A rare machine it was too.
Moved to Finland in 2007 and took the bike with me. Cycling became much safer because of the kilometres of cycle lanes and you rarely had to ride in traffic.
There I bought a Bianchi Impulso road bike in 2018 which I've ridden just a few kilometres and no more because of a problem in my lower back that had been slowly developing over some time due to a stupid life choice. I have 3 degraded vertebrae resulting from that stupid life choice and those rotten vertebrae have robbed me of one of my greatest joys in life. I sold the mountain bike to a fellow mountain biker but still have the road bike which is still in showroom condition if anyone is interested.
I miss the freedom of cycling. The ability to travel without any limits other than traffic lights.
I followed the story of this Canadian indigenous man, Chris Aubichon, who had a rough upbringing and a life full of homelessness, addictions, mental health issues, etc. He decided to bike across the country to go back to school rather than hop on a plane. He got stronger and his mental health improved drastically, and he lost a bunch of weight too. Quite a testament to cycling and exercise in general.
I agree cycling can improve your health and you may meet others by doing that BUT that is what the WHO is trying to push which is part of their upcoming agenda so your video makes me wonder if the Who is also pushing this video .
True , But problem is…the weather were we are living, I am currently working in a different state, its hot.. cannot go and meet the patients with sweat… institutes should build bathrooms..so that employees can come early, take shower – dress up and start their work.. I missing a set up like that..to continue my cycling. Now cycle is using as a stand to hang up wet clothes..😢
In Cold weather can cycle… because won't sweat easily.. but people who are in hot weather..and go for work.. 😒
