FTP, or Functional Threshold Power is now seen as the best way to measure your cycling performance, but which FTP test is best?
From being used to calculate training zones and your anaerobic threshold, and even being important for training tools like Zwift, FTP is an essential metric for most cyclists now.
With a variety of different FTP tests out there, we’ve set out work out, which FTP test should you choose!

No whoop on the road?
Great project
Day 2 should start with a new gasket in the coffee machine @5:38
Cracking furniture!
Thanks to TrainerRoad's AIFTP, I haven't had to take an FTP test in months and my fitness has increased faster because I am a poor tester, which resulted in my FTP being lower than it should be.
Should the FTP line be the lower one on the graph? Also on the 1 hour effort the average watts and FTP should be the same? Day 6 I think
Where is that last test on Zwift? I can't find it. Thanks and epic video!
I've never done an FTP test, but zwift has me on the top of cat c. I don't want to do an FTP test for zwift to put me in cat b as I'm gonna be last in all the cat b races.
For ramp test it is important to stay seated (and Zwift writes that also in the description), otherwise value is likely going to be too high
You need to try Wahoo’s big test, especially since you referenced one our hardest workouts
What is the corret number of FTP tests? N+1! Come on, Hank, can you give a try on the 4DP full frontal test (wahoo/sufferfest)? Also, the graph in the video got the wrong values. It's scaled up and does not match the numbers in the video.
Ftp line on the chart seems incorrect…
at15:18 you make porride. Oats and water, but it comes out looking tasty. What else did you add?
I’d like to see a three week later ftp result.
Yes I definitely want to see what happens after a couple of weeks!!
Wow!!! 🤯

I wonder what the Woop monitor was telling you about recovery during the week…
Yes, update us with a couple of weeks training in the bank!
The zwift ramp test is my fave as it takes away the issue of pacing. And its short. Gets painful very quick though 🥵
Your dog is cute
I always dread the wahoo 4DP test.
Hank no Wahoo 4DP ftp test?
The final results graph is completely wrong. It's showing a flat line day 1-3 over 330 W FTP. However from the video:
Day 1 – 281 W
Day 2 – 285 W
Day 3 – 315 W
Day 4 – 290 W
Day 5 – 295 W
Day 6 and 7 the numerical values aren't given explicitly.
Ramp test is savage !!
I don't think that there is any significant training effect within a single week. Considering all the various uncertainties (form, fatigue, method, nutritional state etc.), it is quite surprising that the figures are so close to each other. In other instances, enormous differences between the approaches to FTP measurement have been observed. Doing the ramp test, I achieve an approximately 15% to 20% higher number, for example. All this being said, deducing any meaningful conclusions regarding the immediate training effect seems questionable at best.
🤓 ⚠️ if FTP is a percentage of your average power for a test, have you mislabelled the chart at the end? 🤔 Average Power should be the higher line and FTP, the lower? 🤔
🤓 ⚠️
My favorite test was sufferfest test back on the old days
