Part 2 of the beautiful Somerset cycling series. A stunning 200km ride – my longest ever distance. We descend Cheddar Gorge, ride through the Quantocks, visit the sea and take on one of the toughest climbs – Crowcombe which features in the UK Top 100 climbs. A spicy 1.2km, 25% max gradient – a real leg stunner.

  1. Glad you enjoyed Somerset which a lot of people just associate with the Levels but it is very hilly. Crowcombe Hill – amazing to me that you did that and still had the energy to complete your planned ride. Just giving the numbers hardly describes how steep it is but to add a liitle context for those that haven't seen it, this is a rural road up to Quantock Common (highest point of the Quantocks) so steep it has an emergency escape lane on the the descent for vehicles with brake failure. At my age and level of fitness I wouldn't dare try it in either direction. I'd be interested to know what gearing you were using. Enjoyed the banter BTW.

  2. Put a leather brooks b17 saddle on the endurance bike, don't need padded shorts shammy cream or anything. You are unaware you are even sitting on a saddle.

  3. Goodonya for completing the ride. Glad you missed all the tourists on your decent of the Gorge. See you did a bit of carb loading, much needed and well deserved.

  4. I’m interested to know what bikes are you both using? I used to cycle a lot years ago, mainly high end Peugeot back then, then moved over to Marin mountain bikes for off-road only. Haven’t cycled since around 2012, but want to go back to road bikes again. I have a few cyclist friends a couple do triathlon, who all use Cannondale. I’m enjoying your videos, so thanks for sharing.
