“One man, One bike, One desire, to ride home across Europe
A cycle ride from Northern Italy over the Alps to England:
A journey of 1300km, across 6 European countries,
A bike packing trip of 8 stages, averaging 163km per day,
Join me as I ride the Euro Velo Cycle Route 15 and the Rhine Rad Weg from the Source of the River Rhine in the High Alps at Andermatt, Switzerland to it’s conclusion where it terminates at the North Sea at the Hook of Holland
A test of personal endurance, resilience and self reliance,
Perhaps a challenge too far, too tough, too unconformable, too demanding on body and mind, This is my story of accomplishing my cycling dream. I hope An inspirational story, an up lifting tail of exploration, an extraordinary journey that is both tough and at times emotional.. to At 55 years old, my the message to you – don’t give up, you can do anything and Live Life.

    1. Looks like a challenging trip! We are planning a similar trip in reverse next year, over a 4 month span. How much does your bike and gear weigh?

    2. Great vids, I know how time consuming they are to produce, and a big thumbs up for uploading. For those wishing to embark on a similar long trip home, plan plan plan. The Eurovelo routes are brilliant to keep you off ( as close as possible) from main roads, and are usually well signposted- apart from Italy! Plan your routes on an app like RWGPS and upload to your Garmin and Phone. Taking the wrong turns regularly starts to piss you off.Get your kit right. The necessity to a carry 40l Bergen on your back for an 800 mile trip suggests your bike set up and load carrying capacity is woefully wrong, you’ll be top heavy, which is not desirable at all on any bike. If you’re planning to cross the Alps on the shoulders of summer, be prepared for the passes to be closed. This is a real shame, the sense of achievement, views and Kudos for doing so on a loaded tourer is great. You haven’t then ridden home over the Alps, if you need to get the train. Get your gearing right. If you’re struggling on the lower slopes, You’ll be walking over Gotthard Pass, not riding. Don’t over estimate your average speed for the day, it’ll be at least a fifth less than you predict. And then knock a bit more off. Leave camp/ hotel early, have time in the bank, don’t be playing catch-up from the off. Don’t get the train if behind schedule,( go inter railing instead) get up early, and do a few big days to get back on track. Not meant as any criticism to these great vids, just want others to have fantastic long trips, where the riding is great, sense of achievement is great and above, all you take from your first long trip, is the desire to plan to next one. Happy riding – touring- backpacking.

    3. Can’t thank guys like you and “keep calm Pedal on”enough for posting vids like these, it pushed me into a different cycling direction, after getting into a bit of a rut.
