Skopje, North Macedonia | A day trip to Matka Canyon and Free City Walking Tour
Skopje has to be one of the most unique and unusual cities we have ever visited!
On our first day in Skopje we took advantage of the FREE city walking tour. We think taking a walking tour is essential when first arriving in a new city. There is always so much to learn and you are immediately connected with a local who can usually give you some good advice for enjoying your trip. While we enjoyed learning about the rich history of Macedonia, we were a tad more excited to head out of the city and back into nature! If you’re in Skopje, you cannot miss a trip to Matka Canyon. This peaceful paradise is only a short 30 minutes bus ride outside of the city. The canyon offers many activities such as hiking trails, kayaking, and a boat ride to Europe’s deepest underwater cave, Vrelo Cave. After a quick brunch at one of the restaurants on site, we opted for the serene boat ride and a tour of the cave for just $8 a person. This was definitely a highlight of our time in Macedonia!

As nature lovers, the highlight of our trip in Macedonia was getting to see the gorgeous Matka Canyon and the colorful Vrelo cave! What do you guys think of this beautiful area?!
It's NORTH Macedonia, a compromise reached and agreed upon by both countries under the Prespa Agreement, and used by the rest of the world. Thank you for not simply saying Macedonia as that's a region in Greece and part of Hellenic history. As you have probably already experienced, North Macedonians are Slavs, not Greeks. What you mostly showed in this video is 'Skopje 2014'; an expensive and heavy-handed attempt to fabricate a national identity through antiquization, stealing and disrespecting the history of Ancient Greek Macedonia.
