DobAR dan and HVAHlah are two essential words to know in and HVAHlah are two essential words to know when traveling in Croatia; in other words “hello” and “thank you” respectively.

Croatia is a country with less than 4 million people and geographically one-quarter the size of Oregon. Since the Balkan conflict in the mid 1990’s Croatia has caught the attention of international investors and tourists, all seeking to capitalize on the natural beauty, history, and clean waters.

Our week-long Croatia cycling adventure with Vermont Bike Tour (VBT) started in Split and ended in Dubrovnik. In between we traversed the islands of Brac and Hvar where we rode nearly 150 miles According to VBT veterans, this was the most challenging given the 10,488 feet of elevation gain.

Our guides Mario and Vanja introduced us to an olive tasting, blue fin tuna dinner, grappa, cherry liqueur, medieval castles, and of course gobs of personal anecdotes. Along the way we caught up with each other and made new friends.
