Stage 1 was a complete disaster. This was a follow-up f*ck-up. Rider safety is paramount – without them there is no event.

At 4:34 you can clearly see Jan Hirt is still with Remco. So yes, he still did have teammates with him.

Remco simply went between the 2 marshals with green vests on, furthest apart, where there was a gap, where he thought the marshals were directing him to go, there were marshals blocking all the left, and the right (which was the blunder here) where the marshals were supposed to funnel him.
He did not brake , and did thought , they will step aside , whatever , this is the first time I did see this , celebrate less , look more
Whatever.. any more careful rider ought to be able to avoid riding into people at the finish. I've often seen far larger crowds at the finish. Ridiculous..
Remco fell into the Jumbo Visma trap, now Quick Step will have to control the race for remaining days until GC contenders start to take real action !

On other media, there were complaints about Remco not braking and even insults to the woman (or crowd in general) but after watching this: What are organizers expecting? That's really not much runoff and this could have even led to some minor crashes if just a large group comes in and there is a pileup at the gate or one rider doesn't notice where to go while others do. The stewards are doing a fine job blocking off the crowd but somebody should have waved them in the right direction like on any given roundabout during the stage.

Idiot crashes AFTER the finish line. Plenty of space to come to a safe speed if you weren't slapping yourself so hard on the back celebrating your win. And that's the ORGANIZER'S fault. Be careful son…you might end up drinking from a spiked bottle before this race ends…then you can really whine about breaking balls!
At this point, it's a comedy. These organizers in Spain have zero brain cells.

If he hadn't crashed into that woman, he would have crashed into the barriers at the end of the available space. It was precisely 100m from the finish line to the end of the available area. he spent over half of it celebrating and there was even a guy in front of him signaling to slow down. As you can see from his Strava file, he didn't break at all. Went from 40km/h to 0km/h in 1 sec. Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming him. He was probably expecting the people to part. He didn't know that behind the people was the end anyway, which is probably why the people expected him to break. Shit happens. But AGAIN, blaming everyone else is not cool. Could have just said I was happy for my win and overcooked it a bit AND that he hopes the woman is ok. Happens. Counting down now til his Strava file gets hidden.

it's ridiculous how people including journalists position themselves at the races. These accidents are countless and completely preventable. It's time for channels to produce educational videos to teach people where not to stay and what not to do.

I mean, come on, he could have slowed down. These guys have the best hydraulic disc brakes. You can see the others braking behind him.
Why TF was he blasting into the crowd going 15-17mph? I cruise at 18-20mph and i can stop QUICK AF on a set of SRAM Single pot hydraulics on a Titanium buke thats heavier. Im also 230lbs, these dudes are 160. It just seems so strange he seemed to not slow down.
