I noticed some cracks in the side wall of my rear tire. Should I replace the tire?

I've ridden the tire for over 1000km now. I've used the bike for commuting and going to the shops. I assume this happened because my tire pressure may have been on the low side while carrying some extra weight?

  1. Yes that needs replaced. The split from the rim outwards looks more like a cut or nick, the cracking going around the circumference is your tyre giving up. Possibly due to how you store it (too cold, too much direct sun etc) or simply being old, though your mileage is low.

Could also be from riding under inflated. Does your pump have a gauge?

  2. Replace. I think it’s about time. worn thread, crack sidewalls tell you to replace it soonest.

Get a pair of Schwalbe Marathon greenguard & you wont need to worry for the next 5000 miles. You will need to check tyre pressure every week or two
