I recently purchased a second-hand bike that was in pretty rough shape. It hasn’t been well maintained, and several parts are seized up—like the seat post, for example. Today, I tried removing the disc brake rotors, which have a center locknut.
I attempted to remove it using a bottom bracket removal tool on the external notches, but the nut seems very tight or possibly seized, and the tool keeps slipping or failing to loosen it. I also noticed there are notches on the inside of the locknut. I’ve used a cassette removal tool for similar locknuts before, but this one appears to have a wider diameter, so the cassette tool doesn’t engage at all.
What tool can I use to undo this locknut using the internal notches? (I’ve marked them in the last photo for clarity.)
Depending which bottom bracket tool you have you can use some big sockets and washers to bolt it on so it doesn’t slip.
