Some cyclists commute into the city of Nottingham but we chose to ride there for an errand. Was it a huge mistake? Why drive 25 miles to take my phone in for repair when we can cycle? Join us on a glorious ride into Nottingham (apart from the crowds) and see how we get on testing Luxebiking’s new Autumn full finger gloves. I also get into trouble for saying the wrong thing – again!

I am Roy, born in 1952, Living in Lincolnshire UK (the hilly part!) and enjoying cycling more each day. In need of a double knee replacement, I still manage to knock out 150 mile rides – but at a relaxed pace! With so many YouTube channels devoted to loud, fast talking, testosterone fuelled, cycling heroes, I thought you might enjoy joining us on some of our more relaxed adventures. I say us because I am usually joined by my best cycling buddy, Wendy. Much younger than me (she makes clear), and very petite, Wendy can achieve 100 mile + rides with no trouble. We are slow mainly because we enjoy smelling the roses and stopping to seek out historical sights. This is made much easier as we both ride graves bikes – Wendy a Liv Devote and me a Planet X Tempest Titanium. We often stray from the planned route to dive off down an inviting looking track. I usually add details of the routes we take, on Strava, at the end of each video so you can ride them if you wish. Wendy is prone to bursting into song, although there’s no chance of a copyright strike as she only ever remember the first verse and even then it’s unrecognisable. We have ridden Edinburgh to Grantham, Coast to Coast on the The Way of The Roses and the Cantii Way in Kent. We sometimes also ride ebikes, mainly if we have things to carry. You will have gathered that we love a bit of banter and let you share in our humour, so please come along and Ride with Roy (and Wendy)

I am always seeking out new and innovative products and was the first to introduce the Tyre Glider. I am VERY selective about what I review and when I do agree to test something, I test it over a long period so I can give an honest opinion.

I am currently designing a long distance tourist route around Lincolnshire – The King John Way, and will launch this in May 2025. We are always pleased to hear from you in the comments, or you can email me at ridingwithroy@gmail.com

  1. Nearly another bollard encounter at 08:48 I see. 😄

Thats the yodel alarm telling you it’s about to rise out of the ground!

    New widened path leaving Grantham?

And no doubt yet more housing too …

  2. I've tried lots of gloves, some better and some not so good at keeping my hands warm. I've found the inner padding seems to get squashed and less warm after a couple of winters.
Shared paths can be a nightmare. I'm quite happy slowing down as we pass by, but why oh why do dog owners leave the dog on such long leads?
It's not the dogs it's the inconsiderate owners. Rant over!
    Thanks for the video.

  3. Another interesting ride and nice to see familiar streets of Nottingham! Had to smile when Wahoo got tucked away in your bag, I could still hear a few squeaks, though slightly muffled. When I call at a cafe, I remove my Wahoo / phone / gloves store them in my helmet. Occasional squeaks recently caused much concern as cafe staff thought their coffee machine was on the blink 🙂

  4. Lovely colours and what a blue sky, could have been Mediterranean. I though we had escaped a Wendy song once the duck chorus had finished 😁. I know why I avoid city centre cycling with those unpredictable pedestrians ! Lovely scenery once in the country, thanks Roy.

  5. Hi Roy. I was getting anxiety when you went through Nottingham centre. I hate walking through it at the best of times, never mind riding through it. Well done you two. Another great video. 👏🏻
