Yeah that should be fine. When the shock compresses it moves upwards away from the bottle and the part from the shock that touches the bottle doesnt really mind if it gets scratched.

No. Definitely not if it’s already touching. Get a smaller bottle. This is from experience.

Over time, the water bottle will gouge the air can on your shock. I doubt it would go so far as to cause damage, but I certainly won’t say that’s impossible. I’d run a smaller bottle

Ya, always best to hydrate before the ride so you don’t need a Mega Bottle, and even then keep a small ice chest to keep cool water and sports drinks. Or if you’re on a long Trek, use a water pack.

  5. Is there space at the bottom? Maybe you can elongate the mounting holes in the cage to move it down in the triangle and buy yourself a little bit of clearance.

Should be fine. The air can won’t move at all through the bike’s travel. You could add a little protective tape where the bottle makes contact if you don’t want it to scratch or rub away paint.

  7. …or you can just shave off that couple of millimeters. I agree that it’s probably not the end of the world but it’s always best not to have anything touching anything there.

  8. It probably works for the shock, since it moved upwards on compression. But it would be too much of a struggle for me to grab the bottle and put it back into the cage while riding. So I’d go with a smaller one.

  9. You have the insulated bottle. Get the uninsulated one with the same volume – it’s significantly smaller but holds as much water

It will rub while riding and take off the paint. Won’t actually damage… but worth getting smaller bottle or seeing if you can move bottle cage down more

It’s plastic vs metal but don’t underestimate that bottle’s ability to ruin your shock.

  12. I went the my hardware store and put washers on the lower bottle cage bolt to angle the bottle downwards. Works great for me. I also put down mastic tape where the bottle might rub

  13. Try the camelback podium bottle that isn’t insulated. I have an XS frame and was having a hard time finding a bottle that would fit but was still worth carrying. Podium was just big enough to be worth carrying electrolytes on my ride.

Just take some sandpaper to the entire outside edge of that bottle. There will be plenty of plastic there to take some away.

It’ll be fine but there will be wear on that side of the shock from the bottle vibrating on it while normal riding. I’d put some tape on the shock if you care about it or shave down the edges of your bottle.
