Is this old GT Avalanch 2.0 worth refurbishing? I don’t have a lot of experience switching out things like the worn shifters, and am wondering if it’s better in the long run to get a cheap new bike. Just trying to keep up with my son who is just learning to ride.

  1. That was my first adult mtb, it’s a great rider. If it fits and the fork isn’t completely clapped out, just ride it as is.

  2. Photo is grainy but it looks like maybe the chain, cassette and front sprockets are roached? I can get a new 8×3 combo in my area for about $60, and a bike charity might charge you another $40 to put it on and align the derailleurs.

  3. Great bike. Parts are cheap and plentiful for a bike like this. Make sure the fork works well. Also it’s for someone 5’6″ or shorter.
