Hi all,

I've bought a second hand Direto Elite to go with my bike to train indoors during the winter. I really want to set it up, but I'm lost as to what I need to get in order to mount the bike. There are so many options and it's not clear to me which is best for me.

The casette that's on the bike

The hub

The connection point on the trainer.

I've watched this video and I'd like to use a new casette (so not taking off the one that is on the wheel currently).

It says I need a chain whip, a ratchet wrench and a new casette. Do I need a spacer? I've seen that it might be necessary.
Is the chain whip special to shimano casettes, what is the proper socket for the ratchet wrench?

thanks in advance!

  1. Why is there no chain on your bike?

You only need a chain whip to *remove* a cassette. A chain whip is not specific to the cassette.

You don’t need a ratchet wrench, what you need is a HG lockring tool like the one they show in the video.

The direto needs specific adapters inserted depending on what type of bike you want to mount (quick release or thru axle). I can’t tell on the picture, but do you have the right adapters in there? It seems the QR axle is not in straight so you might not have…
