is that a *dent* in the headtube ? where’s the rest of the steerer? omg what happened

So where is the stem going to mount?

Looks like you need a new steerer pressed in or just a new fork? Was the fork from a different bike?

What “works fine?” I don’t see how your going to attach the stem with your steerer tube cut flush with the head tube.

For the confused. OP mounted the crown race on the fork by slamming it with some (hopefully) old bearings and a different bikes’ head tube.

~~Alternative~~ Headset cup tip: “threaded rod” + big washer + nuts. Careful wrenching, squeeze. Gets this done with about $3 from a hardware store.
(this is the insert; extract is a different tool)

I did it once by gently tapping it down with the end of flathead screwdriver with some tape over it.
Took ages but it worked without damaging the crown race.
*Edit – Yes I know, a proper bodge job

A piece of PVC pipe will service this purpose…if the standard pipe size is a bit small (which it usually is), add a PVC coupler with an internal stop – no need to cement it together.

If it works fine, then what are you asking?

Dude, Go to a plumber and ask for a 12″ piece of 11/4″ opper pipe. Problem solved for the rest of your life

Just get some 1.25 inch (I think. been too long) PVC pipe, cap it, and use it to hammer down the race. It’s soft enough not to mar the race and doesnt require destroying bearing by hammering your bike lol.
