Hi everyone, I am replacing the crankset on my wife’s bike to an FSA gossamer. Her bb shell is 68mm, so I bought a 68mm bottom bracket. Her crankset spindle appears to be 73mm, so I bought bb spacers.

However, now I’m looking at the bottom bracket and it has a sleeve that won’t be attached to the other side of the bracket once I add the 5mm of space. For reference, I bought the “performance” megaexo (bb-6000) that comes in specific sizes. It looks like other megaexo bottom brackets come with spacers and are made to fit both 68 and 73mm BBs. Mine did not.

Is this an issue? Will the detached inner sleeve allow for debris to get into the spindle? Should I go ahead and just buy the 68/73 bb? (Photos for reference.)

Thanks in advance!

  1. I had a time with my recent mega exo BB/crank install.
If I mounted spacers the spindle didn’t stick out far enough on the non drive side.
Have a finger tight test with no spacers and see how it is, how it’s sitting
