First time out on my new-to-me Surly Wednesday. It was awesome on the wet, unkept, root filled, flat coastal trails, and it was a blast. Handled much better than my well spec'd hardtail I took here last time (minus the brakes). Fatbikes aren't just for snow!

A lot of riders don’t realize just how fun these bikes are in all conditions. They are just plain fun.
One of my favourite things to do on my fatty, especially in spring or early winter, is to just ride through the woods. Not on any trail, just randomly through raw forest. The experience is really quite amazing and the capabilities of these bikes really shine in that situation. They are the monster trucks of bikes and can get over just about anything – and the freedom that comes with that is really fulfilling.
Also great on beaches.
Oh yeah I’ve owned exclusively fat bikes the past five years and I ride on proper technical mountain bike trails all the time. Have been wanting a full suspension for a long time but I love my fat bike as a year round trail ripper.
The fatty can ride as a solid 4 season bike. Still love my hardtail for downhill and heavy technical
I believe that’s been mentioned many times on this site. Anytime you’re apt to encounter roots, mud, 3 foot tall weeds hiding small fallen trees, steep hills so eroded they’re just a pile of loose rocks I grab one of my 2 fat bikes. Around this area, pretty much any time I’m riding not on a rail trail with my wife.
In the Philippines we use it as a XC bike or trail as we don’t experience any snow and it’s just pure fun
Nice Wednesday, have one myself. Fatbikes are as fun AF. I use mine as my one and only trail bike. Is it as fast and nimble as a proper trail bike? No. But I don’t care, I ride for fun and love my Wednesday for the fun factor.
One of my favorite things to do with my fatty is to creekride, or when I get to the beach, I deflate a bit and cruise the sand where the waves come in (though I have to wash the heck out of it if it’s saltwater)
I continue putting off finding spare set of rims with cassette from my farley so I can continue riding it in the snow-less seasons, swapping rubber isnt the end of the world, but a spare set would drive me to actually ride in the warm months.
your post has reminded me I need to do this. I also really like that handlebar, looks like its really comfortable for cruising around.
