OR, wild take incoming, make the bike lanes more useful by building more bike lanes, encourage people to use them, reduce traffic, eventually pedestrianize the whole thing
One easy answer. It would cost a lot of money to widen the pavements
At a time when central government grants to local authorities are being squeezed, is that going to be the best use of a limited budget
bikelanes work all over the world. They reduce car traffic and are good for the shops on the street, because cyclists will stop more easily for a spontaneous buy. If this one does not attract cyclists, you should ask ourselves why. It might be isolated and not connected to other bicycle infrastructure, It might not be on s major cycling route.
Building cycling infrastructure willy nilly is just just silly, but when you take experts and actual cyclists on board, it can provide great benefits for a city.
Good. Car dependency kills cities. Instead of having three lanes of car traffic contributing nothing but smog, you now have a wider nicer area for pedestrians, which will generate greater returns for those businesses and making a nicer environment for residents and a more economically viable area. Further cycle lanes are more efficient at moving people short distances through cities so you also have a more efficient transit system.
