  1. I quit watching the Tour of France race when it was revealed that Mister Armstrong was dirty.
It seems to be accepted…(?), now.
I'm getting excited about biking again. Will be watching the Tour coming. I totally enjoyed this.

  2. Arghhhh this was so good but so annoyed!! I've seen all of Ned Boulting's stage shows so far in Leeds and can't believe I've missed this years'!!! Doh! Brilliant show though.. it's so cool how it's building from strength to strength!! Just bought the book though! 🙂

  3. Tifosi aluminium frame about 15 years old… that's back to about 2009. Brings back horrible memories. I had a Tifosi Audax, Veloce group set but probably a few years before that. Felt great as a budget bike, stiff and taut when I rode it up and down the road by the shop in Barkingside. After 20 miles, I'd be hammered to death. The days when aluminium was like riding a piledriver. Stolen by thieves using an early cordless cutter from a lamppost in Commercial St while I was in an all day meeting. Office front desk saw it happen, scared them off, they came back, chased down the road, got away. Came up to the meeting asking if the cut lock belonged to anyone. I was delighted! Straight to nearby CycleSurgery and ordered first generation Specialized Tricross – much more sluggish bike but perfect for riding to meetings across London with suit and laptop in Altura suitacase and laptop panniers. Brakes were recalled and cantilevers swapped for V-brakes – an early gravel bike tourer

  4. Aluminium from early 2000s is only different from much older bikes in being aluminium, not steel and, probably, having indexed 8-speed freewheel, not 5 or 6. Unless you go almost as far as pre-WW2

  5. For all of those obsessed with cycling and its implied doping culture – please look at UKAD's list of current doping sanctions and ask yourself why nobody is talking about institutionalised doping in Rugby Union and Rugby League…….

  6. Points jersey was never the sprint jersey. For a short period, there was a red, Catch, jersey for sprinting. Points jersey harks back to the days when TdF was decided on finishing places as points, rather than on total time to cover each of the stages. It was often won by a sprinter but, eg, Zabel won it numerous times despite ceasing to be a pure sprinter and becoming more of an all-rounder like Sagan and not winning any stages

  7. The only thing I would like to see as part of the TV coverage is a bit more data. For example the stage profile could pop up occasionally with little markers showing where the break is in relation to the peloton and grupetto

  8. As an American who has been paying ever increasing amounts to see the TDF each year for almost 2 decades, peaking at $55 for the '23 TDF, I thought I was going to be pleasantly surprised by only paying for a month of Peacock for less than $15 to see the '24 edition. Don't get me wrong, I love Bob Roll & Phil Liggett, but wow, didn't realize how much the wife & I enjoyed the European feed until we didn't have it anymore. Sad thing is when there were troubles with the feed, they would switch to European feed until the problem was fixed when watching live, which was such a tease. During replays, we wouldn't even get that, just promos. With me being the "tech" person in the family, the wife has asked me numerous times, to not forget a VPN before next cycling season, so that we can see our European coverage. So we know what it's like not having our trusted commentators and coverage, so I feel your pain, except we never had it free of course, we're Americans.

  9. A truly fascinating and educational discussion of cycling broadcasting with Ned. I am an avid cycling fan and always appreciate what the broadcasters bring to the events that I love, however, Ned was able to bring a perspective from his experiences that I had not ever considered. Huge props to the Cade Media team for this special episode.
