If you are talking about the extra speed into the corner that's due to him being heavier and doing less braking than the guy he overtakes. Standard mate.
In motor racing champs are made in the braking zone. So yes, he did the right thing, brake as late as possible, turn with the rest of them, accelerate out. He was also the only one powering out.
