That was an excellent talk really enjoyed it.
I heard that sticking on a UCI sticker saves you 5 watts
Outstanding interview. Would say that Jake will go far ( in more than only his travels). His personality and charisma,as well as fantastic communication skills……
Double-walled, eyelets, and plenty of spoke holes…. That's the way to go for 'bombproof' touring/bikepacking rims.
Great conversation on touring. Loved the interview.
I didn't know that iron ore dust was an issue from bicycles.
I live in Iowa, the only iron I've seen here is rusted and scary to use.
I’m both a bike packer and a tourer. It just depends on what trip I’m doing. It’s not one or the other or a character trait.
Love the pod. Not a fan of the special guest episodes, but yeah.
My wife just said, “he took Francis’ seat and the show never missed a beat” Mags is not wrong; great show!
This was a fantastic episode. I am close to retirement and one of my goals is to do a long tour like this. I have been researching frames and such for this and have been looking at getting a custom steel frame due to the ability of them to be easily fixed if needed. This confirms my approach frame wise. I love that he is looking at the world at a completely different point of view now having gotten out of the city. Well done young man.
don't need the "coming up segment". I'll just skip the whole first part. I like the informality but always professional content from this channel.
I've never related more to another cyclist's mindset than I do with this man.
Best ep yet
and a pint at the highest pub in Africa — check!
Loved this episode!
ultimate dad lore
The best ever conversation i listen to in my life,i will never do it! BUT THE MINDSET!❤️❤️❤️
Such a fantastic episode, what a pure cyclist Jake is.
Can you guys change the camera and affix it , so it gets everyone in one frame please.
Really great story. Had similar incidents with dogs at the Atlas Mountain Race in Morocco 🐩
this might be my fav episode so far. he's so well spoken and very fun to listen too
Not even halfway through yet and this is already an all-time great Wild Ones podcast. What an incredible trip, and amazing stories to go with it!
Me starting video: "Almost two hours?!? What did they talk about for that long?!?!?"
Me ending video: "Wow, where did the time go? That was amazing…"
"Bikepacking" is hipster touring, for people who think it's a new idea
Ricci Pascoe was beating me in it's nearly 50 years ago. He, and his dad, are the best people in Cornish cycling. Ricci sponsors the team but doesn't even put the name of his bike shop on the shirt. If you want someone on the podcast get Ricci . I live and ride in Africa but that family are why I I am still cycling.
1:05:45 great question
Amazing to hear Jakes' story and how he tells it. Would love to hear more about him in future and his upcoming adventures.
Seriously? HUNT?!?! For a trip like that?!?! 🙃
Basically, for such ride cinelli hotbootleg geo is the bike to take with you
Good thing Francis wasnt here, telling him he should put all the weight on the back, becuase it doesnt make a difference.
Amazing guy.
What a trip what an incredible experience and look at the joy in the eyes when talking about the journey, it’s not all about sighing up to the mainstream, great listen
Those “fake bike” are not high end super bikes but 100% safe if you know the brand. They came from one of the biggest bike factory in China and still sell those frame online nowdays. They are a bit out of date tho.
Note to all: his approach to the gravel race is the real spirit of gravel 1:23:08
So inspiring – New cyclist here, and I already love being on the bike. This makes me think about it very differently. Truly refreshing. I think in the age of strava segments, and being online all the time, the intrepid cyclist is fresh breath of air. Great interviewing too you two.
Fantastic adventure, great story teller…now is it just me or could Jake be Luke @ trace velo's brother??
What about those of us that started cycling as a tourist and then got into racing, "retired" from racing, and never really gave up touring/bikepacking? 😉
