  1. I don’t think it’s an issue, if you save up and just buy a bike which is future proof it will last, a good investment If you’re serious about cycling.

  2. concerning the question of "who'd buy a "classical" bike with rimbrakes and mechanical gear shifters but otherwise state-of-the-art groupset / wheels / tyres…? – and EXTERNAL CABLES" – that'd be ME – in a heartbeat! I so much hate being patronized by manufacturers into buying electronic groupsets, everything fully integrated, hard or impossible to exchange due to the custom nature of e.g., stem, handlebars, seat posts – for somebody who loves to customize and fix his own bikes, it's a NIGHTMARE

  3. Big problem of the high prices is when you want to sell them! The used market would not want to pay much and you loose a lot then what? Keeping it? Then go for 10k new bike? It is too much. Should not buy them so prices come to reasonable levels.

  4. Re professions and professional standards: one can get away with a reprimand from professional governing bodies, before being struck off – unless it’s really bad, like Harold Shipman or Lucy Letby.
That said, it is quite possible to knock off a patient by accident & not get struck off. Just don’t get caught shagging a patient! One always gets struck off for that!

  5. We need an equivalent to a well known Romanian car manufacturer that is part of a large French group.
The Romanian manufacturer (D) uses established parts from the French manufacturer when the R&D has been paid off, making the vehicles far cheaper. Basically making a newer version of last years tech.
    Just a thought

  6. Don’t allow entry into races for expensive bikes or apply a balance of performance. Motorsports have different classes and amateur/junior formulas have less good technology.

  7. I bought a used 2 year old bike, for 1/3 of what it was new.

A friend of mine bought a brand new 2024 bike for half of retail, because bike stores are sitting on invent

  8. Do you have any data to say that prices have actually increased (faster than general inflation)? My caad9 with sora was 1100 in 2008 and the caad13 with sora is 1300 in 2024. That's actually cheaper in inflation adjusted USD.

  9. I just ride the same bike that I bought as a frame, a Cervelo s3, that I got 10 years ago. I had high end components from my old Cervelo s2 and used them. I keep the frame and just upgrade components when they wear out. Only thing I’m missing out on is disc brakes. But I’m okay with clinchers. I only like mechanical transmissions. I like electronic shifters too, that other guys run but I’m just without um.

  10. Not everyone needs the bicycle equivalent to a F1 car. Plenty of bikes available to the plebians that need an aluminum frame with 8-speed entry level components.

The UCI should mandate stage races with entry level bikes, no more than something like aluminum frame, carbon fork, aluminum wheels and no more than a Tiagra groupset.

cycling shorts: Si is feeling dirty of feeling dirty (regards to mud guards)

  11. Currently waiting on adaptors after already a first and second round of adaptors to try and revamp a 2017 frame with better components… I browse used bikes all the time (currently vying for a tri bike if you know any 55-56s laying around) …point being that Dan is right people do maybe want older style builds and the price to make it happen can be as much as a new lower spec bike… anything cycling related is like 2x what one hopes it should be and I think for people who care a lot about having the right thing are going to pay no matter the cost… anyway hopefully my stuff arrives and I can lay down the rubber soon!

  12. 1. Don't trust your needs to fall in marketing marginal gains
    2. Trust your current bikes re building something like the top they can be… Will worthy in 2 ways your knowledge of bikes and the value you have for the used bikes …
Or… 3. Fall for the marketing fever… Your marginal gains Will last 1 ride at most 😅

  13. Watch them go out of business (because no one is buying them at those prices) while they complain about it.

The only reason your channel shows tons of expensive bikes is because you are given them. If you guys had to buy everything you rode you would ride a far more limited selection of bikes, cheaper bikes and the content would be very different.
