Journey to the Château, Ep. 247 – In this Friday episode, Patrick and Stuart continue with the renovation and restoration of their 17th Century Château Chapel. Their friend Tony @notquiteachateaudiy stops by to help with the repair of the leaking chapel roof. Patrick also spends time removing masses of brambles from the chateau buildings. Patrick and Stuart also make a trip to a brocante (flea market/antique fair) in the French town of Reuilly.

Join Patrick and Stuart on their journey to find a neglected, forgotten, or crumbling château or castle in France, and then continue to follow them as they work on its restoration, rénovation, decoration, and furnishing. Along the way, they will also create and share videos on their preparation for having gîtes for guests, and an event venue in their chateau (wedding, birthday, anniversary, organization or club meetings, retreats, etc.).

  1. Tony’s such a gem what a great job on the roof. Love your use of the tractor it’s very satisfying watching you remove that awful bramble. It would take days physically doing it yourself. That’s a fantastic piece of machinery

  2. So good to have the chapel roof repairs done! So kind of Tony to help. Your tractor is a godsend for clearing brambles (almost looked like fun, hehe). So many projects on the go, and you really seem to thrive on that! We're having lots of rain now, so I understand your similar situation. A good time to get inside projects done.

  3. Dealing with gutters, flashing, slate roofing, water drips are so difficult and finicky. How you had to contort your bodies to do the work is not easy …you were both impressive. Thanks for letting us see the process.

  4. Hi Patrick and Stuart, What would you do without Tony? The man is a walking, breathing treasure and a wealth of knowledge regarding repairing and maintaining the Chateau. We are currently working with a contractor with the skills and expertise to deliver exceptional results. If we buy in France, he is coming with us, that's for sure. Mark & Scott

  5. Great that the chapel is now dry and just in time too with all that rain. Renovation of the new suite is exciting but realistically that will take some time and it’s important it’s right so no rush. ❤ to you both

  6. Hi guys sorry I missed the live, I’ve been sooo busy lately 🙈😩 which I suppose is a good thing 😂!! That clock is fabulous 😍 oh wow I bet you are sooo relieved to get that done !! What a fab job!! Ohhh wow that’s rain!! 😂 and yey no water ingress 🙌🏼…. Brambles are horrible to get rid of, I got goats to eat mine 🤣🤣 … not always a good idea though 🤣🤣 love the background music …. Did make me giggle 🤭 I can see you are on a proper mission Patrick …. Great work!!! Love to you both ❤️

  7. Wow, you guys got the leak fixed just in time. Thank goodness for that one nice day. What rain you have had. We sure could use some here. That is one nice tractor you have. It would have been horrendous removing all that growth without it. Your pretty handy on it also Patrick 😊 😍

  8. Hi sweeties. Tony is really the best man for solving the leakage of the Chapel Roof. I'm so glad to hear that there is no water coming through the roof anymore. Now, the work on the inside can start.
I'm sorry to hear that it's raining so much. Here it's a little stormy, but no rain. The temperature at the Chateau is better than here. Hope you have received good news from the vet. Have a nice evening. Hugs and kisses also for the furries and Figaro. 😘🥰🐕🐈

  9. I so wish the bucket on our tractor had that top grip on it allowing the bucket to act as a thumb! I have not seen that feature here in the States.

Maybe eventually build a cricket between the chateau and the chapel to help shed the water? I don’t know that that would be historically accurate but a thought. Finally, I did make my donation for the chapel. I am hoping it went through. It flagged as fraud. I called the bank and explained. Fingers crossed!

  10. Good to have Tony to rescue the problems and the Brambles very bad hard job to remove but always a few challenges the weather un predictable nice to see you both take care

  11. I love your videos so much. Thank you for doing them. I'm glad the chapel is now staying dry. But can you send some of that rain to Southern California, USA? 🤣💕

  12. Is there any chance you can get a minipel in to dig the bramble roots out? Otherwise it will be a never ending nightmare. They are an ongoing problem in my garden too, but on a much smaller scale.

You do have to wonder what they were thinking all those years ago when they put the chapel against the main building like that. Valley gutters – urgghhhh! Thank you for people like Tony😊😊😊

  13. The horror movie music as Patrick cleared the brambles cracked me up. Although I suppose that giant claw WAS their worse nightmare incarnate for the poor brambles who had worked so hard to grow big and strong this summer!
