By far, one of my favorite gravel rides yet.
Teddy Roosevelt said it best in 1901 while riding this route by rail, "the trip that bankrupts the English language." I couldn't agree more. The pictures definitely don't do it justice.
Just look out for the washboard….otherwise, the only gold you're going to find are the fillings you lose.
*Any locals here? Just want to know if all the washboard is a 'late in the season' thing or if it's always like that.

Wow. What a great spot.
Was up there yesterday and was surprised by all the deep loose gravel sections between N. Cheyenne Canyon (after the collapsed tunnel bypass) and Old Stage. Seems more blown out/rough than what I remember, possibly due to how hot/dry it’s been lately. Still extremely beautiful though.

I rode my motorcycle up and over last year in the fall and it was a beautiful road, this year I’ve been up 3 times and all three times, as soon as Gold Camp and Old Stage meet there are massive pot holes all the way past the cathedral rocks going towards Victor 🙁 Gold camp before old stage is always super deep granite every year all year
its been so dry here all summer the washboards are getting bad in a lot of spots
