Hi! This bike was out in a field for a couple years (very long story) but I want to repair it. I'm mechanically inclined and have the tools. Aluminium frame.

    The rear derailleur has always been very iffy on this one. Used to throw the chains off very often. The chain looks extremely crusty but after a bit of penetrating oil it moves perfectly, so idk if I'll be replacing that.

    As for now, what worries me the most is the front fork. I haven't touched it yet so idk if it's superficial but in the car world, piston pitting like that is not good by any means.

    The wheels need truing as well.

    So, here's the kicker – I have the free time to make this a hobby/project bike. I don't want to throw parts at it (besides the obvious need for new tubes and tires), I wanted to repair as much original patts of this bike as much i could. Buying new wheels, cassettes, derailleurs and the lot is very much not feasible atm. I've done the maths and for the price of the lot I'd buy a brand new similar bike. With money to spare.

    1. It would cost more to repair than the bike is worth, by a lot.

      The rusty chain is no big deal, replace it and it’s not expensive. Ditto the rusty cassette. But the rusty fork also needs to be replaced and while not expensive for a like-for-like replacement (it’s a cheap piece of sh*t), it would cost a few $$. It’s safe to assume that all of the bearings on the bike are full of rust and also need replacement. Both wheels, the headset and the bottom bracket bearings. Two new tires and tubes. All new brake and shifter cables, clean and lube the derailleurs. If you did the work yourself AND you own the tools, it might be a fun learning project. But if you took it to a shop and paid them to do it you’d have rocks in your head to spend to fix it instead of just getting a new or good shape used bike.
