Old steel Huffy Scout 10 speed. The larger front chainring has 26 teeth at a 1” pitch (effectively a 52T ring). Pretty understandably, the chain will pop off under load so I try to shift down before a stop.
I’m planning to swap the front rings out for a single narrow-wide chainring. Then run it as a 1×5 setup. But now I’m just curious, how weird is this?

Imho there is nothing goofy about it. It’s just another idea that was tried and it failed. Those old 10 speeders had their benefits and were often very serviceable bikes. I had one and it had only one drawback – atrocious brakes.

    2. Looks pretty worn too. Also, make sure the chain guard isn’t flexing or bent, pushing into the chain.
