Channel 4 News has been given exclusive access inside a pioneering Scottish prison where women budget, cook and clean for themselves.

The Bella Unit in Dundee was the U.K. first when it opened two years ago; its goal is to break a re-offending cycle. Some Inmates are serving life sentences and are encouraged to make links with the local community to help them cope better when they leave custody.

Thank god they're trying a sane approach – actual rehabilitation and continuing family contact.
The lady on the end of her life sentence was very wise. She has a lot to offer.
I hope they will not accept Transgender males.

This prison is better than the homeless hostel I lived in with my kids for 16 months when the landlord sold up. 😂😂😂

Norway and Netherlands are closing prisons because they are not being used and have the lowest repeat offender rates. Their prison system is made not for punishment but for reintegration offenders back into society. But in most countries prison will break person both physically and psychologically then on release there are big barriers for them getting a good job or making decent living, so many are turning back to crime and previous living
Rehabilitation and integration back into society is the key. It should start from the moment someone is put in prison. Unless there is no hope of release, every prison should have this as its end stage. And follow up in the community, too.
