I injured my back this past winter, and my wife finally convinced me it was time to start riding again. We went for a couple a miles only as my back was killing me. This set up used to be comfortable for me, but I feel like I need to switch to either more rise like some bmx bars or a stem with little to no reach? What do y’all recommend

Is the saddle comfortable/wide enough? Maybe the narrow saddle is putting pressure directly up your spinal column while you’re normally supported by your whole bottom when sitting
I had an L5-S1 herniation that I wouldn’t wish on an enemy. I couldn’t move for a month, followed by lots of sciatica and weird sensations in my left leg.
I’d suggest that fixed gear isnt the way to get back at it. Braking is unpredictable and you want predictable situations.
Your back, probably just like mine, needs time to adjust to any new activity. When I started again, I got on my bike and felt just like you. But I kept going for the same distance each week. Meaning I’d only rode 2 miles each time I rode week one. Week 2 I did 4 miles each day… you get the point.
All this was surmised by my physiotherapist. Biking is great for back injuries even though you’re in a position that isn’t suggested in recovery…why? Blood flow to the area.
I gained confidence through cycling, I now play basketball on concrete – the human body is amazing, enjoy yours!
Try a recumbent?
I ride a single speed mountain bike and never sit down. Perfect for form.
