Hey all,

I am in the market for a starter bike that can last me roughly 5 years.

I plan to use this bike to commute back and forth to my college campus in Michigan (thus, cold temperatures and conditions are relevant.) I may want to use this bike as an entry point for light mountain biking as well.

The primary thing that I am looking to upgrade from my Walmart cruiser is braking power. Thus, I have been told that disc brakes are necessary.

I have found this bike which seemingly checks a lot of boxes for me, and I’d love your opinion on the value/fit.

    I am a 5’8” man, 200lbs for context.

The bike is a Specialized 2005 epic marathon mountain bike.

The description reads: Full suspension, 26” wheel, size medium, Fox 32 from suspension fork, disc brakes
    Great starter mt bike

Listed for 250 USD on FB marketplace.

What do you all think? Any and all advice greatly appreciated.

Nope, the suspension on that thing is guaranteed to be completely shot. You’ll spend triple that price getting it fixed back up to be rideable. Look for a cheap but much newer hard tail instead
