So i did my first ever road race and it was awesome. i was invited down to the Portmore Classic down in Dorset to do a 100km Cat 3/4. I filmed as much as possible and here’s the run down on the race.
Im 100% going to do this again next year, the course was nice and flat and thanks to the guys up front for doing the pulling. I need to get more involved in road racing next year so please do let me know of any good events.
Lets ROLL.
Big thank you to Tom the race director for inviting me down and to Chris Bacon for the drone footage.

Nice one man, I was told about this one, I should have gone if I’d known you were there! Hairspray…. Any old cheap stuff, spray your legs where the socks go and it keeps them up. Was told this a few years ago, works perfect 👌
Great content as always!! Love the channel and inspiring to see a fellow 42 year old mixing it 👌💪🏻
Well done Max, one of your best videos I think. Nice you took the jockey wheel jibe in good humour (I'm in the "stupid waste of money and looks tacky camp" fwiw :))
Absolutely the best commentary on a race video ❤
Just remember when you’re suffering… everyone else is too!
Apart from that kid with the gel 😂😂
My first road race two youngest I think I’m 17 I was the lad sat on the floor while you were filming the last bit didn’t eat anything during the race and bonked hard
Great video. Hope to see more next season. Have you considered Cyclocross races this autumn/winter?
Well done mate! Had my first race this year and it was really a great experience. Was however not as flat as yours with 1800hm 😂 How about you join our race here in Liechtenstein 🇱🇮 next year?
Great stuff Max your best video so far as specially as I'm in it LOL! Loved the race content, you did well to hang in the front group, see you next year.
You finished your first RR in the peloton.
Many, many good riders don't manage this.
You did really well!
See you in the A cat on Zwift soon 🙂
Great race – I’m 47 and took up racing a couple of years ago and love it too. 👌🏁
Fair play to you. But come cross racing, you'll have more fun and the crashes don't hurt so much.
In my 40s now and will be racing next season, looks like a good day out. How come you decided not to ride the t1550?
Nice job 👍
Epic video mate, great racing you!
Amazing job getting round on your first 3/4 road race. Massive kudos from me, I'm always dropped after a couple of laps 🫤
well done mate👍🏽
8:49 🤣😂
Great video. Are you going to do the Richard Kell series at Abingdon?
I like you being honest with yourself in front of camera 👍
Aero socks slipping down…… get some sticky spray. Athletic trainers use it to hold things in place…. as do people who want to hold up their aero socks. 🙂
Thanks for posting. Id love to know how much the race cost to enter and what kind of average speed and power a 3/4 race is.
Great video! I’m 43 and looking to race for the first time this coming season. Looking forward to it now 👍
Really good insight into road racing – thank you 😊
Lovely to meet u boss!!
Youngster totally agree on pulley wheels all bullshit unless your Remco, great content again well done.
great vid! I subbed
Well done max 👏
What type of oversized pulley wheel do you have? Looks mint 😍
Hi Max! So pleased you enjoyed your first race! I was I one of the lead cars which helped to close off the roads! Sorry I didn't say hi but good work on the first race, it looked great fun from the sidelines!
Use roll-on body adhesive "skin glue" to hold up those aero socks.
Well done Max, great video!
VC Venta spring race is an awesome 3/4 race, middle of April, just outside Winchester. See you there x
The lighter version of the SLC 3 is coming next month apparently. Maybe it will actually be sub 700 grams 🤔
Get someone else to pin your numbers on if they're not going in the pockets. Your skinsuit stretches when you put it on and will tear the paper, etc.
The other way is to slide the skinsuit up your legs and spread 'em to pre-stretch the skinsuit, but wearing it and making friends with someone else there, asking them to put them on is best IMO.
10:10 If it's any consolation, every season the first race or two I am always clueless as to form vs the other riders, and ride very conservatively. Not sure if that will very go away …
Great video Max, well done for staying in the group. Brings back memories of my first race back in 1980 – 8 laps of 10 miles very hilly, dropped on lap 4!. Went onto better things in next couple of seasons.
