      One thing I have had success with in the past (I am not entirely sure if it will work on this style, up to you)

      Spray a small amount of penetrating spray around the cable.

      On the opposite side where the cable heads off toward the shifter, cut the cable leaving around an inch.

      Using a pair of pliers, grasp the cut end and twist the cable in the direction of the wire twist. Maintain pressure and keep twisting the wire. Usually this is enough to break any stickness between lever and cable. On you have sufficient twisting tension on the cable you can push on it also.

      Note if the cable isn’t fully released to its minimum position apply tension to the cable whilst clicking the lever.

    2. Try putting something skinny in that slot under the cable head and push it out. A small screwdriver or knife…
