I got it for free on side of road. Not sure what it is but it seems like it’s an older bike? I don’t have a bike currently

    1. It’s a pretty basic bike from about forty years ago. Looks like it could be in decent condition. It’s not worth money but if there’s not much in it that needs fixing or replacing, it can be usable for riding around.

    2. Would concur. Not worth fixing up, but combine it with a cheap lock for those trips to the store a couple of miles away

    3. A free bike is worth every penny. The question is whether it’s worth putting money into it.

First flip the handle bars back to the normal position.

If those are steel rims and you might ride in the rain, skip it. Steel rims get really slick.

Pick it up and spin the wheels. If they are not too wobbly and don’t have kinks then it might be worth it.

This looks like a medium sized frame. If you are over six feet (1.83m) it might not be for you.

Tires will need a pump. Chain doesn’t look too too rusty from what I see.  The rest depends what you find.

Watch for rusty front derailleur cable inside that upturned cable housing.

    4. You could put new tires, tubes, chain and brake cables on it and it would still not be worth what you gave for it.

Old school! I rode many thousands of miles on a bike like this.

This is a perfect beater bike. Winter. Probably won’t get stolen, especially if you park it next to a $10,000 Pinarello bike with a UCI sticker on it.

Lube the chain, but don’t change it, because it and the gears and sprockets have prolly worn down together.

Consider getting some old-school toe clips for the pedals.

Brake shoes might be needed. Tires might be needed. Can’t tell from your picture.

    6. Well, you have one now. Looks pretty clean and complete….some air, oil and wipe down and go. Plus butterscotch is a highly desirable color.
