Drivers around me have been super aggro lately. I saw a driver nearly drive into a couple crossing the street with the light on "walk" this morning, and I had a close all myself with a driver trying to turn into me last week. After stopping to not hit me, the dipshit actually went forward another foot (not sure if that was aggression or his foot slipped — it was a really old dude in a BMW so it could have been either). The car behind him rolled down his window and said "what a dumb ass," so even the other drivers knew I was in the right.

I'm thinking a helmet camera is the way to go because it's really obvious what it is, and maybe it'll make drivers think twice before endangering my life. Also, I work really hard at not yelling profanities at motorists or flicking them off when my child is with me in these situations, and I think being able to point to the camera on my helmet would be a nice way of telling the driver to fuck off without escalating the situation or using potty language.

Does anyone have a cheap helmet camera that they love? I did some Googling and Cycling Weekly lists the Akaso EK7000 Pro action camera as the best budget camera. Has anyone tried it? Should I buy it or something else? In order of importance, I want one to show drivers I have a camera, to have proof of driver misconduct and a license plate # if I get hit, and to possibly upload videos of drivers being dangerous to reddit or bluesky.

    Thanks!!!!

    1. It’s what I have. Works well.
Reasonable battery life, takes large capacity memory cards.

The remote app works well so it can be operated from your phone.

I use helmet mount, but if was mounting on the handlebar I’d go up a grade for image stabilization .

All that to say that even my $50 drug store cameras worked fine for capturing a plate and a face in daylight. Nothing really works at night, far too much contrast.

*Fakespot analyzes the reviews authenticity and not the product quality using AI. We look for real reviews that mention product issues such as counterfeits, defects, and bad return policies that fake reviews try to hide from consumers.*

*We give an A-F letter for trustworthiness of reviews. A = very trustworthy reviews, F = highly untrustworthy reviews. We also provide seller ratings to warn you if the seller can be trusted or not.*

    3. I used to use one of these. The quality is not great and it’s super annoying to lose the timestamp everytike you run out of charge or swap batteries.
