What kind of chainguard should I buy? I have a retro 1980s Crescent World Championship bike.

    1. I’ve had my second-hand Crescent World Championship bike for a few years and one of the things that bothers me the most is that the front derailleur cog tends to ruin my trousers. No amount of cleaning of the bike chain (I guess I don’t know how to do it properly?) seemed to do the trick and living in wet and muddy Sweden is a recipe for ruined trousers.

My next step is to try to buy some sort of chainguard for this bike. Where should I start? What should I measure? I’m quite confused when googling online, there are myriad types of chainguards (ones that cover the whole chain or just stick out a bit from the main front derailleur cog). I also noticed that the main front cogwheel has five bolt holes, whereas many chainguards have only four. I would greatly appreciate any help! Thanks!

    2. Stick your right trouser leg into your sick when you ride. Sorted.
Or get a wrap or clip designed for the job. Much easier than trying to fit a chain guard to a bike not designed for one.

    3. To me they look like “110 bcd” but you can look up how to measure that & go from there with getting the guard. You may have to also get some longer hardware to hold the guard onto the cranks As the previous commenter said this is a hassle but possible if you’re really interested, you can just tuck in your trousers to your sock or get a reflective strip that you can wrap around your ankle and keep the chain from catching them.
