    1. The REI has nicer drivetrain components, as it has a Shimano Altus 3×8-speed derailleurs and cassette instead of the lower end 2×7 Shimano Tourney like on the Liv. (REI does have a Tourney crank vs a no-name crank on the Liv) This also gives it a much wider gearing range if are climbing or descending hills.

      Both bikes have Altus tier shifters.

      The Liv has the mini suspension fork going for it, it adds some weight but also provides some comfort and traction on rough surfaces. It can also fit up to 55mm tires as opposed to 45mm or so on the REI

      they are a little plusher tires and longer suspension travel than the Liv for light mtb/gravel use and otherwise very similar spec to the Liv
