Spotted the weather was improving for the third week of September so went ahead and booked a few days in Dumfries and Galloway. It’s a part of the coast I’m yet to cycle and I’ve travelled through Gretna to Dumfries before.
Finished work on the Tuesday and hopped in the car for Carlisle. Notwithstanding the delays, got in at 10pm, just time for a can of sleep juice for an early start.
Wednesday, Full English breakfast to get me through the 5hrs on three trains to get me to Stranraer and then cycle for 60 plus miles. Better get there before sunset. Up and down the Shins and across to Monreith for the first night camping.
Thursday, quick walk to the George Maxwell memorial before another 60-70miles. Don’t mention the shortcut, this delayed me quite a bit but worth it before getting to Kirkcudbright by 6pm.
Third day sadly a bit dull and windy so cut the cycle down to 50ish miles before train back to Carlisle and the cycle home.
South Scotland coast. Done. And beautiful
