Picked up a 2nd hand Khalkoff Select XXL i8, which cames with a Shimano Nexus 8 internal gear hub (IHG).

At first it wasn't possible to change the bike gear, even by turning the grip shifter, it would remain in a low gear and the speed would cut out at ~15km/h. The number would rotate up only until 6.

The casette joint wasn't springing back when I turned the grip shifter so I took off the wheel and managed to disassemble and unfreeze the casette. Success! — it then sprung backwards as expected, and I was able to gear up somewhat (from 1-5 of 8) noticing the change in pedal resistance.

However, when taking off the wheel I noticed there was only one non-turn washer (7R) and I suspect the other (7L) was taken off to make space for the chain tensioner. Yikes, I know! That probably caused the issue in the first place.

I took the bike for a short trip, moving the non-turn washer to the side closest to the IHG casette joint, but the chain started skipping over the rear sprocket.

What do I need to do to get the bike operational again?

    • I think if I buy a replacement 7L non-turn washer, I can attach the wheel stably.
    • I'm not sure if I need a different chain tensioner which takes less space on the axle?
    • I think I'll need to get a new cable for the IHG as the current one isn't the 10 mm minimum distance.
    • Some dropout/Frame damage also pictured but I don't think it will be an issue.
