TL:DR; I’ve ordered two brand new Aeroad CF SLX 8 Di2 ‘s since February of this year and neither are currently functional – both having Carbon issues. Is anyone else experiencing this or worried?

Feb of 2024: ordered my first Canyon – beyond stoked about it.

May of 2024: had put about 600 miles on it. Started noticing Carbon de lamination on the seat post (I’ll add pictures).

Canyon offered a warranty replacement. Which was great.

But the new bike I had to order was 10% more expensive than the last, and I lost the cash I had put into getting that bike fit just perfect (still had my measurements though) setting it up tubeless, tuning up the disc brakes. Probably an extra $900 or so to buy the new Aeroad.

June of 2024: buy new Aeroad (pics attached)

Set it up tubeless and change out the tires to Pirelli PZero Race 30mm tires (the GP 5000’s that came on the previous bike actually had a gum wall blowoit right before I sent the bike back – super bad luck there). Tuned up brakes and shifting again because it shipped a little wonky on the whole group set.

Probably put another $400 in there on getting the new Aeroad tuned up just perfect.

Sept of 2024: had put about 800 miles on this bike.

    CRASHED…

Got my front wheel chopped and went down- I could’ve done a lot better on preventing it. My own fault here.

For details: I was sitting second wheel after a bit of a hero pull on the final lap of a group ride – next guy didn’t come through after the first rider did and I was trying to waive him forward. Took my eye of my front wheel and moved left as the front rider was moving right to get back in the rotation. Caught my wheel on the way over.

Group was about 20 total riders.

I feel terrible for them, and it’s my fault any of them went down as well for those who did.

    Top tube CRACKED…

The shifter damage and curb rash on my wheels was expected..and the head tube feels a little jammed up which I would expect as well.

But cracking the top tube…I mean cmon…it wasn’t like I was descending at 40 mph or hit a guard rail or anything.

It was on Fiesta Island for anyone in San Diego.

Everyone on the ride was shocked the top tube cracked – their experience cumulatively is that they’ve had much much harder crashes than that and never seen so much damage to a bike. (specialized, orbea, Bianchi, and factor owners mostly)

    So….

It’s been a tough year. Lots of skin loss, but mostly mentally tough.

Next: do I get another Canyon? I’m feeling like the Carbon is just not reliable enough for me to keep going down this road with them.

Maybe I’ll transfer the group set to a different frame?

(Submitted for crash replacement already but it’s only a reduction on the frame of like 20%)
