I have a set of Continental Grand Prix 5000 on my Domane road bike. When I was getting ready for a ride, I noticed a long string coming off the side wall. I thought it was a black hair at first that got stuck from a previous ride. These tires have maybe 100 miles on this. I do live in a desert where it is very hot a dry. The bike has always been stored in my garage since day 1 of owning. After closer inspection, it is a piece of the tire. Is this safe to ride? Is it defective?

Happened to me once with the same tires and I rode it for like 1000 miles after that. I don’t think it’s an issue.
Snip it and ride
I think Contis are known for this. My GP4K did the same and I’ve heard Gatorskins did it as well. It’s not an issue. Just snip it and ride on.
