Hey all, went into my LBS and got quoted $5k AUD for the bike above (Giant 2023 TCR Advanced Pro 0 Disc-Di2). Comes with Ultegra Di2 and the SLR1 36 carbon disc wheels + Giant offer the lifetime a warranty on their carbon bikes. Is normally $7.7k RRP. It seems to have everything I could want.

Alternatively there are a few similar spec bikes nearby secondhand (in picture order)
    – TCR Advanced 1 2023 (105 Di2, DT Swiss carbon wheels) = $3k
    – TCR Advanced Pro 0 2020 (SRAM Force AXS, Roval CL50 wheels) = $3.2k
    – TCR Advanced Pro Disc 2 (unsure of year, seems stock, no Di2) = $3k
    – Propel ADV Disc 0 (unsure of year but has Di2)

My question is, is buying carbon new worth it? Is the carbon lifetime warranty useful and worth spending more for or is saving ~$2k a better deal and go secondhand?

I’m fairly new to road riding but my current bike was a $500 bike that is not the correct size for me so I definitely need to change.

    Appreciate the help!

I’ve owned one new carbon bike and 5 used ones. As long as there are no problems that you can find when you buy it, you should be good to go. I’m not sure what the warranty is for…crash replacement?

    2. If I were in your shoes I would try to do some investigation on the fitting side of things before going for second hand. The top two TCRs (2023 / 2020) are both very slammed (stem almost at the lowest point), and dependent on your level of fitness and flexibility, that could be terrible for a new rider.

If you are flexible and strong enough to hold that sort of aggressive position for extend periods of time (many hours), you won’t go wrong with the Advanced 1 or Advanced Pro 0. I wouldn’t worry too much about the warranty on the carbon frame on something that isn’t particularly old and was well taken care of.
