Just completed a 4 day trip in the Vedauwoo area outside of Laramie, inspired by the bikepacking.com route with a few variations mapped out by my riding partner. We started in Laramie. Our pace was “late middle aged, we’re carrying too much and we stop a lot.” But it was an absolutely fantastic trip. I highly suggest this route. We ended up with just short of 90 miles. 7,500 feet of elevation.

Pros: Perfect blend of single track, double track, gravel and almost no pavement (a couple miles total).
Beautiful and unique scenery. The rock formations are really cool.
Almost always have some cell signal
Plenty of bail out points if something goes amiss.
Not a lot of hike a bike, but definitely some.

Cons: Still pretty close to humanity on much of the route. Depending on campsite selection there’s a good chance you’ll still hear some noise from highway or gravel roads.
Almost always have some cell signal
    Wyoming wind

Tips: Start with breakfast at 17th Street cafe, particularly if they have the chorizo skillet
Do some water drops. A 2 lane highway splits the route making water drops pretty easy.
Choose your chunkier tire if undecided. We were running 3.0 and 2.8. The route has soft gravel and some sand.
I recommend the Laramie start instead of starting at Happy Jack. You get more mileage and get to descend for miles on single track at the end.
Bernie’s Mexican restaurant was great at the end.
Ride on the weekdays if possible.
Ride late September or the very early part of October for aspen color. I would get worried about weather in later October personally. Winter can come fast at 7-8,000 feet in Wyoming
