Hi all, was thinking about getting a whole new frame recently, and realized that for like $100 or so I can bondo the dings in my current frame, buy new decals and repaint it. Which I’d much rather do than get a new bike for a variety of reasons. I think I’ve got all the supplies I need figured out but wanted to see what people recommend for repainting old frames.

I am planning to use 120 grit to wet sand the first couple paint layers off then 240 for the rest. Bondo the denta in, let the bondo set then prime, paint, decals, topcoat.

How do people typically hang their frames and forks so they can evenly apply paint and let it dry? Especially folks who live in apartments?

Paint choices + planned decals attached (I know it’s not technically the correct decals for my frame but I like the look of these better so idc, plus I’m hoping the smallest “Bianchi” will fit on the inside of the fork arms

    1. I did the same thing you did but I would recommend getting a stronger top coat on top of the flake paint if you can do it safely use 2k clear coat

      Good luck

I’ve seen people hang their bike on a tree branch, but you should probably find a spot that doesn’t have too much wind hitting you as you’re spraying.

Additionally I think the sparkle is hard to get looking great. Might consider getting two cans of the flake in different media sizes if you want it to really pop kinda like a bass boat would. Wet sanding as best you can before and after clear coat will help it feel smooth to the touch.

And practice on something small that’s not the bike to get your process down and save you from buying more paint.

Lastly use a laser lever for the stickers if you’re worried about them going on wonky.

      Best of luck, soldier 🫡

    3. their paint sucks ass, the top coat is abomination, especially at that price point

i’m surprised nobody sued them for deceiving marketing and waste of time

it’s a little kid project level paint and coats

    4. You can also find the needed paint supplies at any place that sells automotive paint. You should have more options to choose from too.
