    1. Somewhat story time and a few questions.

I have a 2021 CFR Ultimate with SRAM eTap Red shifters. I’m a heavy sweater and living in the super humid Singapore. So this is how my shifter looks like after 3 years.

I am very self-aware of my sweat, so I wash my bike with soapy water and dry it after every single ride. However, it didn’t occur to me that I should somehow clean under the cover.

Recently the CR2032 battery in this shifter finally gave in. When I discovered how rusty that screw is, I didn’t wanna take a risk to mess it up, so I took it to a bike repair shop (official Canyon repair partner) and asked them to replace the battery. They told me “come back in 2 hours”. When I went back, they said they replaced the battery on both shifters. I was happy, took the bike home. About 3 rides later, the battery died on me mid-ride. So I peeled off the cover, only to discover the screws still look the same. Which is weird, if they took the screws out, the process would at least took some rust off in my experience. So I suspect they were unable to take the screws out and simply lied to me. Which makes me disappointed, I’d rather take “sorry we couldn’t do it”.

      Anyway, my questions:

      1. how do I remove those rusty screws? Do I really have to use a screw extractor kit?
      2. where do I get replacement screws and what size exactly for the battery cover?
      3. how do I clean my shifter and how often should I do it? This white “salt” doesn’t come off easily, even scratching doesn’t do much.

    2. Use the SRAM app to connect to your bike. Connect to the shifter. It should give you the battery condition. Mine doesn’t use the screws to change the battery. Underneath I believe you should find a cover to the battery which is round and just a bit bigger than the battery. Use a coin or large screwdriver for a quarter turn release.
