It’s been some time before I had the opportunity to get out to Michaux state forest, and this was the first time I’ve had the (dis)pleasure of bringing my bike there.

We camped in the Peggy’s Hill parking area and had about 2-3 hours before encroaching storms. We opted for 2 blue trails in a loop to the reservoir and then a “downhill” parallel to the river for about 3 miles.

Unfortunately for us, both trails have been all but abandoned.

What was once (very clearly) incredible advanced riding is now completely abandoned and covered in blown down trees.

I’ll be contacting the overseeing body to find out the status of these once excellent trails.

I have to admit, suffering through this with friends was actually pretty fun, all things considered. A terrible day riding is infinitely better than a good day at work.

I want to be clear, there IS excellent riding in this forest, and I’ll be back, just not here lol.

    1. Man that’s disappointing. Used to love riding there when I lived in Northern Virginia. Some of the best technical riding in the region. Are all the trails like this?
