Heat index roughly 100 for the final half of the race. Took 7th place overall for the 80 mile distance.
There must have been A LOT of DNFs because I let a group of 20ish go at about mile 5 knowing I couldn't hold the front's pace on such a hot day. Only 6 others finished in front of me… a race of attrition and bike handling (several miles of sharp chunk over skull size jagged rocks). It wasn't the most glorious day but I'll take it.
