I spent the day in Coventry city centre with just a £10 budget. The city suffered so much during the second world war with many of its beautiful old buildings destroyed. In the 50s these were replaced by awful looking brutalist monstrosities. I guess it was just a case of having to put up lots of buildings quickly but now, all these years later it feels like many of them have been neglected. I wanted to like Coventry but unfortunately there seemed to be a negative atmosphere in the centre. Maybe I just went on a bad day!

    1. Another great, informative video James, glad you didn't starve!
You probably don't realise that I am one of your (and Helen's) biggest fans which I think may entitle me to ask what you may think is an impertinent question but quite apt considering the £10 note.
i.e. why do you advertise Tesco when they are the first supermarket to stop using cash (in some cafes)?
I personally think we should boycott them for the way they treat their suppliers and the way they try and hide their dirty financial dealings. G**gle "Rob Moore reel the truth about a cashless society" – I bet it gives you some "Rant" content! grrr
Hope you find this interesting 😊Loved the night driving with the beautiful sunset and hope you got a good night's sleep in "your spot"

    2. I have worked in Coventry, but had NO idea of its fantastic medieval splendour! Ironic to think that those buildings survived the bombings, survived the war, only to be left unappreciated and sad.

    3. Your videos are NEVER rubbish, They keep me going, whilst I teach in Shenzhen, I need the normality and Yorkshire humour/banter,. No self-doubts please. Keep going, love your work. Helen and you are awesome.x I loved the Pickering vids. You have a flair for this, please keep going, Trying to get my sister onto your work, but she works all the time, She has seen some of your work, and she really likes the content. Bravo, from the Yorkshire/Scarborough International Teacher.xxxxxx

    4. I like and appreciate all your videos, James. Real life is what it is, most of us know exactly what's going on in our societies and who's behind it all so please don't beat yourself up about things beyond your control. Take care and si thi! 💖

    5. Ay up, sorry to see that the pint (and Coventry) wasn't that great, as my Irish wife would say you looked a bit "scundered" on this one. Hope you're doing ok pal, at least you got to go up to the peak district in the end, always a good place to be 🙂

    6. This was fine James…stop fretting. Hope the drive back up towards home went ok. I am moving house because of racer boys and their cars which has got worse in the last 10 years. You get to an age where you can’t drown it out any more and just want peace and quiet

    7. I went to Coventry about 6 weeks ago primarily to go a micro pub called Hops d’Amour. I spent a couple of hours in there and the ale was brilliant and it was a good atmosphere. Just to visit Coventry and end up in weatherspoons would have been pretty depressing and with only a tenner to spend 🤦‍♂️. Oh dear.
