    1. Stop smacking the split wedge first of all. That ding and the attempt to spread it will only further tighten it in the set up. Find a dead blow hammer. Not a bouncy rubber mallet but a proper bead filled dead blow and smack the side of the steerer tube. OR, using a block of aluminum held agaisnt the side if the steerer tube, hit the aluminum block with a ball pean hammer. The spike load should separate the wedge…..
