In this video, you will join me along an exciting eurovelo 8 bikepacking trip as…

I woke up at 5 am on a farm by a busy road to Manosque, determined to catch the first morning train to Marseille.

After days of wild camping, the prospect of a few restful days in a hotel was enticing, especially in Marseille, with a backlog of work waiting for me.

At the train station, I struck up a conversation with an experienced biker who had toured places as far as Kazakhstan.

The noisy traffic had robbed me of a good night’s sleep, so although I tried to work, I dozed off almost immediately on the train.

Arriving at Marseille’s train station, it was a challenge to find the exit. The city surprised me with its hilly terrain, the dirtiness, and the cultural diversity of its population.

I reached the hotel hours before check-in, weary and in need of rest. To pass the time, I decided to explore a local bakery.

After a long, sleep-deprived wait, I finally received the keys to my room. I was excited to balance work with exploring Marseille’s nightlife, but fate had other plans.

Suddenly, I was struck down by food poisoning and endured three agonizing days confined to my hotel room, unable to move or eat.

On the fourth day, feeling slightly better and with only an hour and a half before checkout, I took my Brompton bike for a quick tour of Marseille.

The city was teeming with scooters, reminiscent of Vietnam, and the closer I got to the sea, the more intrigued I became by Marseille, wishing I had more time to explore.

Street sellers were everywhere, hustling their wares to tourists. Time, however, was not on my side, and I had to cycle back to the hotel to check out and leave Marseille, returning to Manosque to continue my journey on the EuroVelo.

    1. Cuando se viaja mucho puede pasar que se coma algo en mal estado. Lo siento. Por lo menos te pilló en un hotel. 😢
Ahora valoras más el tener salud.🤷🏻‍♀️

    2. hi Viet! We are two friend cycling and we are reaching Marseille tomorrow and then we wanna head to Genova through the coastline. I was wandering if you did something similar what was the experience regarding car traffic since it seems like the EV8 is not fully completed. Looking forward for your next episodes just had to ask 😅
